Peace & love. burberry, the most highly anticipated show of london fashion week, has the gift to awaken all the senses by diving into the 70s spirit. in an erected marquee in the kensington gardens, the voice of clare maguire melts the hearts of the audience whilst all the eyes meet across a spectacular front row, comprised of kate moss, naomi campbell, jourdan dunn, cara delevingne, maggie gyllenhaal, clémence poesy, sam smith and even mario testino...for the wardrobe, three icons of the house showed on the catwalk: the poncho, the cape and the trench coat, featured with fringing and patchwork of flowers setting the tone of the season. alongside a multitude of light, fluid dresses with high waists, low necklines and revealing backs, comprised with mirror embroideries, in warm colours, showing with a leopard clutch and studded suede boots. the delicacy of the materials, the craftsmanship and handmade features are the focus of the collection which is always romantic, designed by christopher bailey. to note: several stand out pieces like the capes and fringed scarves which are available now and can be personalised from the 9th of march. interviews:christopher bailey: it didn’t start from seventies it really started with this idea of things which are very crafted, which are made slowly by hand, so we had a big patchwork of different crafts from embroidery to printing, to mirrored, to whip stitching, to quilting and so what we wanted to do with this collection, was put them all together, with all of our iconic styles with the trench coat and the ponchos and the capes. we started everything with the idea of a cape or a poncho, so even the very classic coats we cut them as a poncho. it was basically coats and dresses which was the collection and that was because i like this idea of just throwing something on which you didn’t have to work out all the different things of putting things together. but even the coats you can wear them as dresses, it was all about this idea of it feeling effortless and relaxed.lily donaldson: i thought it was beautiful, very “carole king” there was a beautiful dress with black stripes i loved that.music from the show
